High Five for Friday!

Photobucket

Linking up with Lauren from My Grey Desk for High Five for Friday!

1. My cute patootie, Simba. Marcus, Buddy and I were snuggled up on the bed watching the Olympics and Simba was on the ottoman we have at the end of the bed under the covers, watching too :)

2. Welcome back to school!! We have had many changes this year at my middle school, but the year has started off wonderfully. Minus, of course, first day of school traffic, and the fact that one of my 6th graders accidentally hit the fire alarm. In the middle of lunch. On the second day of school. Never a dull moment.

3. Loving this new change in my life. Reading the Bible. Check out She Reads the Truth for devotionals directed at women :)

4. My sweet Morgan started 2nd grade this week! I can remember the day she was born like it was yesterday. She has grown sooooo much and is so stinking smart, its unbelievable. Love her to death!

5. Homemade meals from my Marcus. Tonight's was steak, homemade scalloped potatoes and corn. YUMMY!!!

Positivity

When Marcus and I got married we talked a lot about living a positive life and keeping positive people around us. This is something that was very important to us because we felt like there were certain things that put stress on our lives and we really wanted to avoid that as much as possible.

One of the things I have changed about my life is that I have started reading the Bible. I can't say started reading the Bible "more", because I technically never read it on my own. Don't get me wrong, I am and have been a Christian pretty much all my life. I was baptized at age 14, was a member of a great church, but I don't think I ever knew how to read the Bible on my own. How do you pick a section and study it? In comes She Reads the Truth.

SheReadsTruth

I can't quite remember where I saw this first, but a few bloggers and high school friends have mentioned it, and I finally got on board. It brings a sense of peace to read the Bible and really makes you think. Anyway, this is a large step in the right direction, for me, when it comes to living a life of positivity.

But here's the thing about living a life of "positivity" as we are trying to do. It is hard. Everywhere I look, I feel like there is so much negativity. People are down about something, or overly critical, or just plain mean. Let's take Pinterest and those lovely little e-cards. They are so funny! And then when you really start looking at them, almost all are sarcastic and mean. I realize that they are meant to be taken lightly, but really, when you are flooded with these thoughts on a regular basis, they start to become your thoughts, not to be taken lightly. For example, this particular e-card rang true for me.

Seriously. And when you start to not like someone, or have ill feelings toward them, EVERYTHING starts to annoy you. I was catching up on my Surrendered Life portion of She Reads the Truth, and I found several verses that helped me with this, particularly Ephesians 3:17-18 and also James 2:12-13. These (to me) speak of giving people mercy and forgiveness, and tell us not to make negative comments and bring people down. We should build them up!! Will people let you down? Of course. But holding on to those feelings only brings YOU down. Still, I struggle. Lets say there are particular people who bring you down. Is it the right thing to distance yourself from them? I don't know. I think so, but how do you do it in a positive way? I'm really not sure. Seeking that answer.

And, don't get me started on Facebook. Lawd, help me.

So, question, how do you stay away from all of the negative things in life? I know you can't from ALL, but does it weigh on your heart?

Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday to my brodie, Jared! He is the best big brother I could ever ask for. I pretty much ignored him for the first eight years of my life, but he has taught me so much about life, soccer, being a better person, and working hard.

Shopping trip

If you saw my facebook post yesterday, you know I went shopping yesterday. Shopping has become more and more frustrating for me over the years. I don't like spending money on things that are ill-fitting. I've resorted to wearing "flowy" shirts a lot, but my biggest issue is always with my bottom half. It is SO frustrating to go into a store and see the majority of their fits are "straight through the hip and thigh". Seriously, don't most women have hips that curve? Lately, the only pants I've found that fit well are from the Loft, and their curvy fit. Even Gap's curvy fit gap at the waist.

Needless to say, yesterday I tried on about 100 things and was unhappy with most of what I tried on. Part of this is because I want to lose a few pounds, but I also find it hard to find things that flatter me, regardless of my insecurities. It was a frustrating day, but I did get a really cute blue and white striped cardigan from The Loft, and some capris, along with a mint colored tank top (I've been wanting something mint), and a plain white tee from Gap.

Also, I got these shoes! I'm so excited to wear them and actually use them! They're pretty comfy and super light.

and, in case you were wondering...6 days!!

8 days a week...

8 days. 8 measly little days until I will officially be Mrs. Powell.

EEEEKKK!!! So excited. There is still a good bit to do, but I am so so so so so excited for this day to come. The past year and five months have been the best of my life and I am so happy to make this official :)

Oh, and let me also point out that I am getting three for the price of one. That's right, on July 14 not only do I get this handsome face...

But I also get this one...

(Ri-guy)

AND this one

(Mr. Buddy).

Can you say lucky girl?? Cause I can ;)

Tonight, Marcus and I are going on our last date as an engaged couple. My parents and brother will be in town for Marcus' bachelor party, and my mom and I are going to get into trouble go shopping Hilton Head.

Updates on all that, later

Love and Thanks,

Angela

A large sigh of relief....

And I'm done. I'm finished with my masters, which felt like it took longer than my Bachelor degree. I will probably start my Ed.S. online at Valdosta in the fall...right now I'm still considering it. Whatever I chose, it will be all online. Or I may just take a break!

Speaking of my bachelor degree and college, I've had a lot of thoughts over the past few weeks over how much I've grown and changed, even in the past year. Marcus and I are getting married in three weeks, and I am so happy in the place that we and I am at. It took a long time to get where I am now.

Do you ever wish you could go back and tell your former-self things? I hate saying that I have regrets, because I think that everything that happens in your life leads you to where you are now, and right now I am very happy. However, if I have any regrets it is how I treated certain people in my life. I spent a long time unsure of myself, semi-unhappy, and letting my opinions be easily influenced by other people. Its not that those people were bad, in fact they were all very good people, but when you let other peoples opinions become your own, you lose a sense of yourself. When you lose a sense of yourself, you do things you end up being not proud of. There are a few people in particular that I know I treated poorly, people who were good to me and wanted the best for me, and to those people, I want to say that I am sorry. We may not be close like we once were, but you will always be in my heart, I will always love and care for you.

So, to my former-self: Follow your heart. If something feels remotely wrong, it is wrong. If you love someone, tell them. If you miss them, tell them. If you are sorry for how you behaved, by all means, tell them. What you allow to happen, will continue to happen. Never take anyone or anything for granted. It is natural that people will come and go out of your life, but it doesn't need or have to be on bad terms. Love everyone, and be understanding, for you never know what they are going through behind the scenes. Oh, and be yourself and believe in yourself.

I am so happy to be at the point in my life where I truly feel that I can be myself, and everyone I am close to loves and respects me for who I am, including my opinions. We all make mistakes, and my friends lovingly help me through those mistakes. Marcus and I have been so blessed throughout our engagement. We have so many people who have sent well-wishes, love, and support. I am so glad that we will begin our marriage with such a great circle of friends.

I know that I would not be where I am at today without my future hubby, Marcus. I've never met anyone who is so encouraging and loving and loves me for me.  He inspires me to be a better person, a better me. I am so excited to have only 20 days until I become his WIFE!!!

Thank you all for molding me into the person I am.

Love and thanks,

~Ang

New member to the family

Meet Simba :)

An update on life

Whew! Finally got some major things done. We're all moved in, just waiting on the boy's bunk bed and a kitchen table, which will be here in a couple weeks. I cannot wait for all that.

Next on my to-do list is to finish a major paper for school. Soccer is over, we came in second and had a wonderful season. I love those girls!! I am sad the season is over, but I am happy to have a little rest time.

Marcus and I picked a place for the rehersal dinner, and we've decided on flowers. We have an appointment for the cake, so all that is left is the DJ. Invitations have been ordered! Yay!

There are a few things that I would like to get done around the house...some DIY projects, but those will come in due time. I have a lot of projects I'd like to do for the wedding over the summer, and I cannot wait for that time off!! The first room I want to work on is Buddy's room. We have a book shelf to put together, and i have painted two things, but I need to frame them and hang them up. I have one more painting to do for his room, and some cork boards to paint. I also want to paint his dresser...but that is a project I'm a little scared of. We'll see!!

I hope to update the blog more and make it a little more user friendly. I only have 6 followers...but hopefully if I fix it up, I'll add some more to the list :) I've been reading quite a few blogs lately. I do have a questions for my blogging friends...how do you add pictures? When I add from my computer they add funny, like a weird color or half black. I've been uploading from my phone, but I know there's got to be an easier way...help!!

In the upcoming weeks I have my first bridal shower, a pampered chef bridal shower, and spring break!! If you'd like to book a Premier Designs Jewelry party with me, please let me know!!

Apartment -furnished

Our living room, when you walk in the front door, I wish I could keep that table behind the couch, but it is my brothers and will be going back to him soon. I would like to find a bench with a space for three baskets...or another couch table.

The couch and my lovely picture from Ikea. That is a photo on a canvas...it's huge and was only $60 bucks!! I love IKEA!

The other side of the living room. Almost all of the pictures in the living room are travel pictures. The ones hanging here were taken in New York when I went to visit my friend, Amber, who was going to Columbia at the time. I love them :)

Kitchen...not much to see here.

My desk. I need to re-hang those pictures, they're a little crooked :)

My kitchen table!!!!
Just kidding. We are getting a table at the beginning of May. This is Buddy's Cars table. The paintings we done by my friend Haley. She is one talented lady...I need to commission her to do more :)

Our Pantry!!Dollar tree decked out in all of its glory. I love it!!

Next up is the only completed room in the apartment, apart from the living room. Buddy and Riley's bathroom! I got the majority of the decorations off a yard sale site on facebook for $18. Awesome deal.

The painting was done by my friend Misty before I left for college. It has been in every bathroom since I was 18. Buddy has inherited it, now :)

And my favorite part of the boys bathroom...This picture I made on Snapfish!! I took these pictures one weekend when we had both the boys, and I knew I had to put them in the next bathroom, somehow. I saw on pinterest a sign on the wall that said "splish splash I was taking a bath..." and also loved that, so I combined the two! I will eventually frame this, but i just love it!!!

The guest bedroom...Need to put up decorations. The mattress is so low because its on the floor because the bed broke. We need to get new slats for the bottom.

And the master bedroom. It has a quilt the same pattern as the duvet in the guest room. I loved that pattern from IKEA, Marcus calls it my "grandma quilt". We registered for something different, so hopefully we'll get it soon and the grandma quilt can go to the guest room!

The canvas above the bed is from PixWraps.com. I got it for $25!!!! Saw a coupon online. It took a while to come in, but I love it. I'm going to get some of our wedding once we are married :)

Please notice our new addition to the family, Simba, by the bed ;)

And the Master bath, which is not so exciting, either. Hopefully we'll get the stuff we registered for soon, also.

New apartment...again

Gearing up for one busy week...

I have SO much to do in the next couple days...lots of school work, packing and MOVING! Thats right, we get our keys to our new apartment on Wednesday, and we will be done moving by Saturday. Knowing my OCD butt, we'll be unpacked by Sunday. Words cannot express how excited I am for the boys to have their own room (NO MORE TOYS ALL OVER THE LIVING ROOM!!!). I am sure there will still be toys, but their home will not be in our main living area. A HUGE closet, kitchen...ugh, I'm so pumped. I'm seriously about to go crazy here!

So the packing begins, now. I really don't have a lot that has to be packed. Books, DVD's kitchen stuff and cleaning supplies. Everything else is already done.

Hopefully once we move I will be able to update more and have more time and room for crafts!

Wish us luck. If anyone wants to help, we are moving on Saturday around 10am. Just hit me up. Marc cannot lift anything as he is still unable to completely walk.

<3 and thanks,

Angela

A Wish List

As the plans are coming together for our new apartment, the wheels in my head are turning and I am creating a "wish list" of items I want to decorate and make our apartment truly a home. This will be the place that Marcus and I live as a married couple, at least for a little while. Hopefully we will buy a house in the next year or so, but until then, we plan on living in the apartment we're moving into at the end of this month.

Pinterest has really gotten me into some trouble for this wish list. I keep seeing all of these neat ideas! While my obsession with Pinterest has actually calmed down, I've turned my obsession to the things we need/want.

Wish List

1. A bunk bed for Buddy and Riley's room. ~ My Aunt has one that we will hopefully be able to take off her hands, but we will need mattresses for it. Christy's has a futon on the bottom, and a twin on the top, which I like because if we ever have visitors (HINT HINT, family and friends), we can put them up in there, too! We will also need bedding for the bunk bed. I'm thinking navy blue, since I plan on decorating with sports teams (Marcus is a fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, Auburn, and Celtics). I've got grand plans to paint signs for that room, too :)

2. A kitchen table ~ My sister has one we can take off her hands, but it needs some work. I have some plans for this (thanks Pinterest). I want to paint it grey, with some kind of chevron stripes because I'm pretty much obsessed with them right now. We'll see how that turns out. This is something I am SO excited about. My fondest memories as a child are of my family sitting around the kitchen table eating dinner. We are currently unable to do that because we don't have a kitchen big enough for a table.

kitchen table redo
3. A new dresser or bedroom set ~ Yes, either one will do. We absolutely need more space for our clothes. We will have a larger closet, but I would like a dresser at the very least. I what I'd really like is an entire new bedroom set, but as that is not in the budget, we'll see what happens. We are trolling craigslist and facebook sites for one. Should we get a new bedroom set, the bed we currently have will go in the guest bedroom.

4. A new mattress ~ also, not an essential but something we're really hoping to get soon. The mattress we have now is pretty old. If we get one, we'll put the old one in the guest bedroom.

5. A coffee table ~ the coffee table we are currently using is one of those padded ottomans, which is nice, but its hard to place drinks on it. We'd like new side tables or just a coffee table. Again, trolling craigslist.

6. A command center ~ This is an idea i've never heard of until recently!  I have desk and bookshelf. I'd like to get one more bookshelf and set each one on either side of my desk in our future kitchen. Grand things will go down at the center...recipes, blogs, homework, crafts, endless procrastination....
A "household command center" in the kitchen is a MUST!

7. A toy box for Buddy and Riley's room ~ I have idea's for this. I want one of those shelving units with the 12 x 12 boxes that you can put things in. Right now their toys are basically in a laundry basket. It keeps stuff out of the way, but its hard for them to play with everything because they have to dump it all out to reach the stuff at the bottom.

Functional toy box.
As you can tell, I'm pretty excited about this move. I already have the stuff for the boys future bathroom, I have a sign made to hang in there (I'll do a grand reveal when it's all done).
